Family Services Specialist
The Family Services Specialist serves a crucial role in providing services and support to low-income individuals and their families in Saratoga County. The Specialist will be participants’ primary point of contact with the agency and will assist them in accessing local resources, advocating at appointments, and making appropriate referrals. The Family Services Specialist will employ evidence-based family support services grounded in principles of Trauma Informed Care, Universal Basic Regard, and Coaching in order assist families in establishing household stability and working toward self-sufficiency.
Full-time candidate needed to:
Conduct centralized intake with LifeWorks participants for grant compliance and to determine service eligibility. Answer participant inquiries for assistance through Food Programs, as well as other agency departments and make referrals as appropriate.
Provide coaching and one-on-one support to low-income families and individuals, in-person or virtually, in order to assist in goal setting and developing action plans to support pathways to economic mobility and self-sufficiency. Coordinate and deliver workshops that address participant needs.
Assist the Family Services Manager and Community Services team in the development and implementation of the EMPath Mobility Mentors Program.
Participate in staff training for Trauma Informed Care, Economic Mobility, Coaching and Whole Family Approach. Ensure that Family support and mobility mentoring services are trauma informed and responsive to the unique needs and culture of families and individuals: such as single parents, grandparents as caregivers, co-parenting relationships, LGTBQ+, non-English speaking, teen parents, domestic violence situations and more.
Encourage participation by offering programing and support that: Recognizes adult learning styles and preferred language; Accommodates schedules by providing programming day, evening and remotely using web-based platforms; Eliminate barriers to participation to the extent possible by coordinating transportation, childcare, meals, on-loan computer equipment for remote sessions and interpreters when applicable.
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work or other relevant field.
Working knowledge of government, healthcare, legal and social services programs. Must have knowledge of issues faced by low-income individuals and families.
Experience in performing basic social needs assessments, crisis intervention, case management/mentoring, and advocacy.
Provide customer services that is responsive to the unique needs and culture of families, such as single parents, grandparents as caregivers, co-parenting relationships, LGTBQ families, non-English speaking, teen parents, domestic violence situations and more.
Excellent communication and computer skills are required. Knowledge of Window, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, Google Docs, Zoom or other online meeting platforms. Familiarity with mobile devices, online training platforms and software applications helpful.
Compensation: This position offers a starting rate of $16.00 per hour.
