Summary: The food runner acts as a liaison between the kitchen staff and the dining room staff. He/She supports guest service by running food from the line to the server or table while it is at its hottest, keeping the line clear and available for continuous food order preparation and the quick, efficient serving of hot quality food to the guest.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare station with under-liners, doilies, gravy boats, ramekins, serving spoons, and other tools, condiments, and sauces that accompany and complete the presentation of all dishes offered on the menu
  • Keep trays clean and lined with unsoiled linen
  • Carefully assemble food order for delivery by reading dupe thoroughly and matching food items to the table order to be filled
  • Carefully check all dupes for special instructions and make sure that those directives are completed, e.g. sauce on side, allergies etc.
  • Make sure that garnishes are properly placed on appropriate dishes
  • Assist expediter in wiping clean all plates before delivery
  • Communicate with servers when their tables’ orders are almost ready to be delivered
  • Call food orders to the line when expediter is not available
  • Follow all directions given by the chef in regards to all food item service
  • Assist servers in carrying food to the correct station and the correct table
  • Serve food to guests always serving from the appropriate side with open armed service, never leaving food unattended at a table
  • Always serve food to the proper guest position never auctioning food
  • Communicate to servers and bartenders all 86’d items or counted down items as directed by the chef
  • Keep line stocked and clean before, during and after service
  • Communicate all significant matters and assist in proper corrective action
  • Maintain a respectful and cooperative working relationship with all other employees
  • Supports bus staff and service staff when not running foo

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Outgoing, pleasant personality, and a desire to please guests
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for 8 hours
  • Ability to work in a team environment
