Summary:       The host/hostess sets the tone of the restaurant because he/she is generally the first person the guest meets. The host/hostess welcomes guests, assigns tables, answers the phone and takes reservations and answers questions during service.

Job Duties:

  • Greet guests entering the restaurant
  • Assist with coats, hats, umbrellas (where applicable) in cold or wet weather and directs guest to appropriate place to store their items
  • Accompany guests to tables, carrying drinks on trays when possible, handing out menus
  • Monitor conditions and flow of service of the dining room for potential bottlenecks or problems adjusting the seating of servers and stations to best serve the experience of the guest
  • Communicate all significant matters to supervisor and assists in prompt corrective action
  • Perform any helpful chore such as bussing and resetting tables as needed to expedite the seating of our guests
  • Answer the phone using proper greeting and phone etiquette, obtaining and recording contact information and special needs or requests for all reservations, offering directions or other information 
  • Accurately input guest information into reservation system for future analysis
  • Actively learn the faces and names of our returning guests and acknowledges our guests when they come to the restaurant
  • Recommend and provide information of our sister restaurants and other departments and locations in our company
  • Take reservations carefully considering the business already reserved and carefully direct the guest to the times that best suit the flow of the restaurant while accommodating the closest time to the guest’s request
  • Stay updated on all restaurant information - phone number, address, hours of operation, etc.
  • Sell gift cards collecting proper payment
  • Take to-go orders, assembles and checks orders for accuracy and collects payment
  • Routinely check restrooms for cleanliness and stock
  • Routinely update status of tables to effectively quote wait times and prepare for arriving guests
  • Thank and invite guests for a return visit on their departure
