Free Form Fibers is committed to using the laser-driven chemical vapor deposition technology to bring new and unique fiber materials and related products to the composites industry.  The manufacturing technician position is an important and crucial role in the company for achieving success, and the individual taking this position will be challenged in a variety of areas.  The following list covers many of the competencies and capabilities that would be expected for the person filling the role to have:

Mechanical Skills

    • Assembly, integration and testing gas handling systems
    • Working with vacuum pumps, valves, mass flow controllers, heaters, gas cylinders and pressure regulators
    • Assembly and disassembly of vacuum and gas process equipment

Electrical Skills

  • Fundamental electrical skills in low voltage hardware such as sensors, flow controls and data acquisition hardware
  • Troubleshooting motion control hardware and wiring skills related to sensors, pressure controls and motors

Process and Gas Controls

    • Experience working with pressurized gases and pneumatic hardware

Computer Skills

    • Windows 10 fundamental applications, i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint
    • Operating data acquisition systems and process control hardware such as gas flow and pressure monitors

Technical Writing Documentation

  • Ability to write test and quality control procedures

Safety Procedures

  • Follow lab safety procedures related to lasers and hazardous gases
  • Experience with use of personal protection equipment and following safe operating procedures

Experience with LabVIEW software a plus

This multifaceted position requires the ability to multi-task and self-direct in order to achieve the range of goals the company has targeted for success.  A hands-on approach is a necessity as is the willingness to integrate into the diverse efforts of the team.  The person that fills this role will need to have excellent written and verbal communications skills, in order to excel with both the present small team and in the near future as the company grows.
