Senior Buying/Purchasing

Primary Role: The Senior Buyer will be responsible for strategic sourcing of goods and services for the company. This will encompass finding and developing new supply sources and maintaining existing Vendor relations. It requires hands-on participation with negotiations, analytics, software system maintenance and the development and submittal of reports and disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently plans, organizes and executes activities related to the procurement of goods and services
    2. Price negotiations with Vendors with minimal oversight for purchases under $150K
    3. Maintains item purchase price database towards updating costs in conjunction with Finance including item maintenance within computer system to ensure correct purchase pricing is loaded for Buyer/Planners
    4. Analyzes market conditions to determine present and future price direction, availability of goods & services and reports analysis
    5. Develops, maintains and uses a request for quotation process to evaluate vendor quotations which utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service
    6. Recruits and maintains Vendors which provide optimal total value in service, quality and price for goods and services while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct
    7. Reviews purchase orders, claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
    8. Authorizes payment of invoices or return of merchandise as necessary
    9. Prepares and reviews contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications
    10. Facilitates, manages, organizes and communicates on major quality issues and is the lead liaison with the Vendor until quality issue is corrected
    11. Organizes environmental compliance information
    12. Executes specialized sourcing requests from Product Directors and Manufacturing Engineering
    13. Organizes, administrates and reports on the testing of potential new items or new Vendors of existing items through the utilization of company processes. Approves new item additions to our software, via ECO/ECN process
    14. Various reporting on purchasing related activities such as cost savings, rebates, vendor evaluations, inflation/deflation
    15. Develops analysis and builds purchase plans for goods and services
    16. Participates in development of strategic purchase plans in conjunction with Product Management, Materials Management and Finance
    17. Participate in integration projects
    18. Periodically prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices if needed
    19. Ensure compliance with policies and applicable laws as relates to cross-border product movements
    20. Point person for cross border Customs activities and support to administrative staff and Vendors for proper compliance
    21. Must become familiar with and promote company safety, objectives, core values, vision and mission statements
    22. Other duties as assigned


• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required, Purchasing certification through recognized organizations (i.e. CPSM, CIP, CPP,SCMP) preferred
• Five to Ten years’ purchasing experience
• Successful vendor management of portfolio of direct materials, MRO or Services with a preferred value of $20M or more
• Experience analyzing data, preparing and presenting reports
• Industry experience is an asset. Experience within the swimming pool industry or industries which relate to our strategic commodities and services preferred
• Possess skills in verbal negotiations
• Experience interpreting, negotiating and modifying documents such as contracts, quotations & agreements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organized, analytical and detail oriented
• Excellent computer skills; intermediate to advanced levels in spreadsheet, database and word processing software
• Lead project teams, and have influence across functional groups
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions while working with changing priorities and competing demands
• Experience in management and/or leadership highly preferred
• Some travel required, both national and international with overnights Some evening and weekend work may be required
