Supported Education Counselor


Northeast Career Planning @ Unity House is looking to hire a Supported Education Counselor for our Schenectady County Contract. If you enjoy working with people and advocating for others, this might be the job for you!  Supported education is a community mental health program which utilizes the psychiatric rehabilitation model to assist individuals with choosing, getting, and keeping educational goals.  With individual support, the (potential) student will identify his/her educational needs to formulate a specific school goal. 

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with coordination of educational supports and services
  • Provide direct on-campus assistance
  • Refer to resources on and off campus
  • Educational funding advisement and advocacy
  • Assist with coordination of services with mental health providers
  • Provide on-going support and skill development
  • Provide support in crisis resolution in educational settings
  • Will establish an educational goal and objectives that will be evaluated regularly

 Please make sure you have: A Masters or Bachelor's degree in health, human or educational services, and one-year qualifying experience. Experience working in the educational systems a plus. Must have reliable transportation, valid NYS driver license and acceptable driving record as determined by our company's liability insurance policy. Experience working with a mental health population preferred.
