About
Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center is dedicated to delivering equitable and accessible quality care – empowering our diverse community to achieve better health and wellness. For over 50 years, Whitney Young Health (WYH) has been a source of healthcare for 20,000 patients each year, regardless of an individuals ability to pay. WYH works to alleviate patients’ barriers to accessing care. We provide transportation, translation services, patient education, nutrition, and case management services. In addition, WYH employs culturally diverse clinical and support staff. More than 8% of our patient population reports speaking a language other than English. To assist these patients, WYH provides interpreters and utilizes technology-based interpretation services.
We operate health centers in Albany, Troy and Watervliet, providing primary, pediatric, behavioral health, dental, addiction treatment, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, podiatry, vision, women's health, and WIC services. Our School Based Health Centers provide medical care in three of the City School District of Albany’s elementary schools and at Albany High School, as well as the Watervliet City School District. Our mobile health unit, Whitney on Wheels, provides medical care at schools, public housing and community centers in Albany and Rensselaer counties. Through a collaborative dental program with the Healthy Capital District Initiative (HCDI), Seal a Smile delivers preventative dental care at schools throughout our community and has recently added on-site restorative care to over 70 schools.
