The more voices involved in a team’s work, the greater the chance of chaos, friction, or conflict. Whether you are part of a new or long-standing team, or working with an informal network, efficient and reliable communication can be a challenge. As George Bernard Shaw once said: “The single biggest problem in communication… is the illusion that it has taken place!” We talk and share information and expect that others will understand our message and reply in kind. It doesn’t always happen. I’ve often heard leaders say: “Remember, we’re all on the same team.” And then observed the team members acting as anything but a team.
