Assistant Professor (Non-tenure)

The Department of Pharmacy Practice at ACPHS invites applications from qualified candidates to join the College as an Assistant Professor for a non-tenure track appointment. The desired area of specialization is inpatient geriatric pharmacotherapy. The faculty member will actively participate in the College’s teaching mission, provide appropriate service to the College and the pharmacy profession, and engage in scholarship relevant to the innovations they develop in pharmacy practice or teaching and learning. The faculty member will collaborate with the providers and participate in experiential and didactic large and small-group teaching and learning.


The inpatient clinical practice will be affiliated with The Eddy, a part of St. Peter’s Health Partners’ Continuing Care division. The Eddy offers a wide range of healthcare services across 22 counties, benefiting over 40,000 individuals annually. Its services encompass long-term care, post-acute recovery, memory care, supportive housing, and various community services. Renowned for its exceptional care of older adults, The Eddy is recognized for its innovative approaches and programs. Notably, it introduced the state’s first Green House® model nursing home.


The faculty member will develop a patient-centered, team-based clinical practice site and work with a senior ACPHS faculty member affiliated with The Eddy. In addition to precepting APPE students, the faculty member will assist in precepting the ACPHS PGY2 geriatric pharmacotherapy resident, the SPHP geriatric nurse practitioner fellow, and the Albany Medical Center geriatric medicine fellow.


Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains a clinical practice site
  • Participates in APPE rotations as assigned.
  • Participates in didactic teaching as assigned.
  • Attends/participates in monthly Department of Pharmacy Practice department meetings and other committee meetings as per assigned service.
  • Advises pharmacy students as assigned.
  • Performs teaching responsibilities as assigned by Pharmacy Practice Department Chair.
  • Engages in scholarly activity relevant to their practice and teaching assignments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of teaching and learning pedagogy and student success initiatives.
  • Knowledge of academic programming related to pharmacy education.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively to internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task, develop and present workshops or training, and to advise and guide students specific to pharmacy learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Observes schedules and meets assignment deadlines.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn/enhance skills needed to perform responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D. degree from accredited College 
  • PGY1 residency experience
  • Eligibility for licensure in NYS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PGY2 residency in geriatrics
  • Board certification or eligibility in geriatric pharmacy (BCGP)


Physical Demands: 

Position requires that a substantial amount of work is completed sitting at a computer or laptop. The employee regularly communicates with other personnel via telephone, in person and e-mail. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Salary Range: $105,000 - $110,000 annually
