IMMIGRANT SERVICES SPECIALIST part-time seasonal

LifeWorks Community Action is currently seeking a candidate to provide bilingual services and support to immigrants and their families.   This position is part-time for the horse racing season and is located at our Backstretch office serving the immigrant community working at the Saratoga Race Track.

Job Duties:

• Primary intake, assessment and case management/mentoring for clients in crisis.  Maintain updated client case files and relevant database records. 

• Provide interpretation with respect to medical, educational and legal services.
• Interpret for customers to secure access to and assistance from appropriate resources.  Must be comfortable using a language line to provide direct bilingual customer service. 

• Conduct program and educational outreach to the immigrant population.  Assist with community outreach within Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. 
• Assist in planning, scheduling and supporting community projects. 
• Promote and assist with ESL classes.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Associates Degree in social sciences including coursework related to cultural diversity, Latin American/Latino studies, education, social work or human services or; High School Diploma/GED and 2 years’ experience in related field. 
• Must be bilingual Spanish/English.
• Passion for serving the community, alleviating poverty and building a community where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their goals.
• Knowledge of Human Services, effective crisis management.
• Positive attitude and good customer service skills.
• Organized and detail oriented with a willingness to learn.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and be insurable to operate agency vehicles.

Compensation: 24.00 per hour

Schedule:  15 hours/week with flexible scheduling, occasional evenings and weekends required.
