Employment Type: 35 hours/per week, hourly pay $17-$18 depending on experience
About Gateway House of Peace:
Gateway House of Peace is a nonprofit organization providing a safe, comfortable, and compassionate residence for terminally ill individuals during their final days. We offer free, end-of-life care in a peaceful, home-like setting, focusing on dignity, quality, and support for both patients and their families.
To support this mission, the Gateway House Thrift Shop sells donated goods, with all proceeds directly funding the care provided at our residence.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Retail Thrift Shop Manager to lead the daily operations of our nonprofit thrift shop. This role is vital in promoting our mission through effective retail management, community engagement, and coordination of volunteers and donations.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all day-to-day operations of the Thrift Shop
Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment
Supervise and support volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator
Ensure merchandise is received, sorted, priced, displayed, and rotated appropriately
Manage donation intake and track inventory efficiently
Deliver excellent customer service and serve as an ambassador of Gateway House’s mission
Monitor sales, prepare daily reports, and maintain accurate financial records in coordination with the Treasurer
Plan and execute in-store promotions and community outreach events to increase engagement and support
Utilize marketing and social media tools to promote the shop and attract customers and donors
Use POS systems and Microsoft Office applications for reporting and daily operations
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and supervisory skills
Work independently with a high level of organization and timely follow-through
Identify and resolve issues proactively to streamline shop efficiency
Motivate volunteers and staff to meet goals while fostering a positive, respectful team environment
Exhibit passion, commitment, and energy in aligning shop operations with the mission of Gateway House
Experience Requirements & Qualifications:
1–2 years of experience in retail management; nonprofit or thrift store experience preferred
Strong organizational, leadership, and team-building skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Experience managing or working alongside volunteer staff
Understanding of thrift store operations, customer base, and mission-driven retail environments
Familiarity with the mission of Gateway House of Peace or similar hospice/palliative care organizations is a plus
Ability to lift and move merchandise as needed
Passion for Gateway House’s mission and commitment to serving the community
Availability to work Saturdays and flexibility to support occasional special events
